Party Tips
1. Mail invitations two weeks before the party date.
2. Plan a safe, comfortable place for the party where the children can have fun, but will not hurt themselves or your home. If planning an outdoor party be sure to have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
3. Limit the party time to two hours or less for children under six years of age. Up to three hours is fine for older children.
4. Prepare more activities than you plan to use in advance. Activities often take less time than planned and you may want to keep the children busy.
5. Include the birthday child in preparations as often as possible. Let him or her stuff the party favor bags, make suggestions for games, help with the decorations, set the table, and mail the invitations - even if that only means putting them in the mailbox.

- notepad (to keep score)

A few days before the party, sit down with your child, and on slips of colored paper, write down names of people she and her friends would know (real or fictional). At the party, divide guests into two teams (Team Hannah and Team Montana), and have guests take turns acting out the people’s names on the paper. Give each team 60 seconds to guess whose secret identity is being acted out. The team with the most correct guesses wins. Body Glitter Everyone will sparkle like a superstar! Everybody can mix her own body glitter during the party and take it home as a fun favor.
Supplies:
- 1 cup aloe vera gel
- fine polyester glitter (any color, available at most craft stores)
- small cosmetic travel container with a screw top, for each girl
- wooden craft sticks or coffee stir straws
- adhesive labels/mailing labels
- gel pens
Fill the containers ¼ full with aloe gel. Pour a small amount of glitter into each container. Give the girls wooden craft sticks or plastic stir straws for mixing. Add more gel until the mix is complete. Close lids. Let everyone decorate a mailing label with Gel Pens and then attach it to her body glitter container.
Hannah Montana Sing-Along To warm up the crowd at the beginning of a party, put on a Hannah Montana CD, and invite everyone to take turns singing a line from one of the songs. If guests are a little shy, arrange people in groups and have each group sing together. Or consider having a lip sync contest. Print lyrics from some of the songs to have on hand in case party guests need a little help with the words. To get guests in the performing mood, pass out props like a Hannah Montana Wireless Microphone, sunglasses, funky hats, boas, etc. Then grab your camera and watch the stars come out!
Autograph Seekers This party activity is a fun way to capture memories of your child’s “superstar” birthday event.
Supplies:
- newspaper
- sheets of white paper
- pen
- white T-shirts (one per guest)
- permanent fabric markers
Cover a table with newspaper and lay out T-shirts. Insert a piece of paper between the front and back of each shirt to prevent bleed-through. Cut star shapes out of paper (one per guest), and write a party guest’s name on each; tape one next to each shirt (so the kids will be able to keep track of whose shirt they’re signing). Have everyone draw a picture on the front of their own T-shirt. Then ask them to flip the shirts over, and walk around the table autographing the back of their friends’ shirts. Hang dry during the remainder of the party. Before your guests leave, have everyone put on the autographed shirts, and take a group photo
Miley’s Marvelous Dress-up Relay Game Everyone gets to dress up like Hannah Montana in this silly game.
Supplies:
- 2 decorated cardboard boxes (use sparkly paper or glue on sparkly items to make them look fabulous)
- dress-up clothing (tops, skirts, jackets, hats, scarves, bags, sunglasses, shoes, etc.)
- masking tape
Fill each box with the same type of dress-up clothes to ensure a fair game (e.g. 1 skirt, 1 top, 1 hat, etc.). Put a strip of masking tape on the ground to indicate a starting line, and place the 2 boxes side by side several yards away. Divide party guests into 2 teams and have all the players stand behind the starting line. When you shout, “Showtime!,” the first player from each team runs to her team’s box, quickly puts on all the items, runs back to the starting line, and takes everything off. The next player on the team then puts on all the items, runs to the team’s box, removes them and puts them back in the box. The player then runs back to the line and touches the hand of the next player on her team. The game continues until all the players have had a turn putting on and taking off the dress-up clothes. The first team to complete the relay wins. If a team has one less player, the birthday child should be on that team so she can go twice. - several butter knives
Invite all your superstars to sit around a table. Hand out sugar cones and invite everyone to attach candies to the sides using frosting as “glue.” When everybody has finished decorating, add a scoop of ice cream to each cone to complete the “microphone.” Top with multi-colored sprinkles. Stardom Strawberries One of the perks of being a celebrity is fine dining. Watch your “famous” guests devour this divine dipping dish.
Ingredients:
- container of strawberries
- package of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Supplies:
- microwave
Wash strawberries; dry well or chocolate won’t stick. Microwave chocolate in a bowl on medium heat for 30 seconds (monitor closely, since microwave times vary depending on wattage); remove and stir a few times; repeat 2 more times. Stir until all lumps have melted. Microwave again as necessary. Serve while chocolate is still warm (but cool enough not to burn). Everyone simply dips strawberries into the chocolate and savors the perks of stardom.
Decorating Tips
Spread your tablecover on your party table. If your child has any theme-related toys, you can add them to the table for a more festive display.Cut several one-to-two-foot-long pieces of curling ribbon. Curl the ribbon by pulling it between your thumb and the blade of your scissors. Lay the resulting curls on your table for added color.
Hang balloons in bunches for the best effect. If you choose to fill balloons with helium, wait until the party day to ensure they float well! Use balloons to mark the party spot; hang them on the mailbox, near the front door, or tie them to the birthday child’s chair to mark the seat of honor.Place balloons anywhere that strikes your fancy. Gather six or eight streamers and attach them to the ceiling in the center of the party room (or over the table). Use a light fixture over the table, if you have one, as the center point for the streamers.
