St. Valentine Says
This game is just like “Simon says”, only use “St. Valentine” instead. In case your memory isn’t up to speed, here is how you play: An adult will call out commands like, “St. Valentine says, ‘Lift your left leg!’” and everyone lifts their left leg. The only commands that the kids do not follow are those that St. Valentine did not say! You are out when you don’t follow St. Valentine, or if you do something that he did not command. The last person still in the game wins!
Musical Hearts
Tape large red Die Cut Hearts to the floor, one for each child. Every child begins by standing on a heart. Start the music and have the children walk around the room. When the music stops they need to stand on a heart or they are out. Remove one heart after each musical segment.
Mirror Candy Relay
Divide the group into teams. The first child on each team holds a cup on their head. The child looks into the mirror that is held by another team member (or it can be mounted on the wall) and tries to fill their cup with Valentine candy. When the cup is filled, they dump the candy back in the bowl and pass the cup to the next person. The first team that finishes filling their cups wins!
Sweet Fortune
Kids and grownups alike are crazy for sweets. This activity is a fun version of fortune-telling that involves a big bowl of Valentine candy! Have your guests grab a small handful of candy from the bowl and interpret their fortune according to the list below. The more of each color, the greater the influence will be in your life. The great part of this game is if you don’t like your fortune, eat it up and try your luck again!
Red: Love
Pink: Friendship
White: Popularity and Power
Purple: Loneliness
Green: Wishes – For each green one, you can make a wish that will come true!
Blue: Wealth
Valentine Scramble
See how many words the guests can make out of the words “Valentine’s Day” in five minutes.
Matchmaker Memory Game
Sit in a circle and have each player take five conversation hearts. One person starts a story with a few lines using all of the words on their hearts. The next person in the circle continues the story using their words. Each player must use all the heart words in their lines. Once you have gone around the whole circle, you can eat your words at the end!
Pass The Heart:
Divide into even groups of 5 or 10 and make them stand in a straight line.
The first person of each group wears a long Valentine necklace (one that goes down to the waist).
Now on the clue to start, the first person has to pass the necklace to another using only their head (no hands allowed).
The next person passes it on to another until the end of the line.
The last person has to return it to the first person in line in the reverse order.
The first group that can do it quickly without dropping the necklace is the winner.
Make Valentine’s Day Pins
What You Need:
Plaster of Paris
Water
Measuring cup with a pour spout
Mixing spoon
Plastic heart shaped candy mold
Pin backs
Paint
Paintbrushes
Clear spray paint
Follow the instructions on the back of the plaster of Paris carton and prepare a small portion at a time.
1. Pour the mixture into the heart-shaped candy mold but do not over fill.
2. As soon as you fill one heart, place a pin back into the plaster of Paris. Hold until it stands freely.
3. Let dry overnight. Pop out the pins when dry and let your children paint them. When the paint is dry, an adult can spray a glossy clear paint on the pin to finish.
HEART PUZZLE WREATH OR FRAME – Cut hearts out of cardboard (approximately 5″ in height). Cut the center out of the heart, leaving a “frame” shape. Gather enough small puzzle pieces to fill the outline of the heart, with some of the pieces overlapping. Prior to your party, spray paint the puzzle pieces with red paint, allowing plenty of time for the paint to dry. Glue the puzzle pieces onto the cardboard heart one layer at a time, until the heart is filled with randomly placed pieces. Attach a tag with curling ribbon that reads, “Valentine, you hold all the pieces to my heart!” If you are planning to use this craft as a picture frame, simply cut a 4″ X 6″ photograph to fit the outline of the heart, and glue it to the back of the cardboard frame. Add a 1″ strip of magnetic tape to the back of the frame and you’ll have an adorable fridge magnet! (Ages 4-12)
VALENTINE SMOOSHIES – Use any of our heart shaped latex balloons to let children make the perfect Valentine gift for their parents…a stress relieving heart shaped smooshie! Stretch each balloon for a few minutes before filling it with flour. Flour works best, but in a pinch, sand will also work. Using a small funnel, fill each balloon with one (1) cup of flour. As the flour is added, gently tap the balloon so the flour packs tightly. Remove as much air as possible, and tie the balloon. Children love this activity, as they love working with any material with the potential to make a mess! Set one of our plastic tablecovers under your work area, and clean up will be a snap! (Ages 4-12)
HEARTS, HEARTS & MORE HEARTS –Cut heart shapes out of clean kitchen sponges and use them to stamp red, pink or purple hearts on inexpensive white t-shirts or boxer shorts. Both make great pajamas long after Valentine’s Day has passed! If you choose this craft for a classroom activity, ask each parent to contribute $2.00. (T-shirts or Boxers can be purchased in the boys or men’s underwear department of discount stores at a cost of approximately 3/$5.00.) Provide each child with a piece of waxed paper, paper towel, and a small amount of acrylic fabric paint. Dip the heart sponge into the paint, and then lightly sponge onto the paper towel a couple of times to remove excess paint. Craft stores carry pre-cut heart shaped sponges, but the kitchen sponges create a really interesting pattern. The same sponges can be used prior to the party to decorate plain napkins, goody bags, plate edges, streamers, and paper tablecloths. Choose a plain color of party goods from our All Occasion Store, and add your own heart-filled touch. With minimal effort, you’ll get lots of ooohs and aaahs! (Ages 4-14)
FUN FRAMES – Nothing could be sweeter to give or receive than a framed picture of a loved one on Valentine’s Day. For each party guest, you’ll need a clear plastic acrylic frame, a supply of candy conversation hearts and some tacky glue. Glue the candy hearts to the outside edge of the frame, and allow time for the glue to dry. Our acrylic frames (check out our Personalized Favors & Gifts Store) can be imprinted with your special message for as little as $1.75/frame. Large quantities are even less expensive. As an alternative to using candy hearts, cut shapes out of pink and red fun foam and glue them to the frame. The Polaroid™ Pop-Shots camera provides a terrific way to take pictures at a party, and allow guests to take home a frame filled with a precious picture to give as a gift. (Ages 3-12)
LUV BUGS – Make adorable bugs out of red and pink pom poms (3/4″ – 1 ½” size), red and pink pipe cleaners (bend to create antennae), wiggle eyes, and fun foam cut in the shape of hearts for wings. Fill a small baggie for each child with assorted goodies, provide the glue, and let them be creative! For a fun touch, add a piece of magnetic tape to the back of each bug…an adorable fridge magnet! (Ages 3-9)
