Fun Ideas to Set the Mood

Decorate the party area with streamers. Twirl royal blue and turquoise blue (and/or white) streamers together and drape them from the entrance, walls and windows.

Decorate cardboard boxes as giant ice cubes by painting them white or wrapping them in plain white wrapping paper, and then embellish lightly with turquoise blue spray paint. Add snowballs by placing wadded-up paper balls or white styrofoam balls around the ice cubes.

Cut out large penguin, seal, fish, and Eskimo shapes from construction paper or poster board, and place them around the party area.

PENGION PARTY FOOD IDEAS
Icy Arctic Edibles

When it comes to food, partygoers are usually perfectly content to eat pizza or hotdogs, which is certainly much easier on the hosts! However, if you have the time and would like to serve up some more interesting, theme-based treats, consider these ideas:
Serve penguin and fish-shaped PB&J sandwiches. Make sandwiches and then use a knife or penguin- and fish-shaped cookie cutter to carve out the shapes.
Dish up snow cones for your guests. Use a snow cone maker or other ice grinder, scoop snowballs onto paper cones, and add snow cone flavoring. (You can get bags of ice, flavoring, and paper cones all at the grocery store.)
Serve fish sticks—every penguin’s favorite snack!
Turn the birthday cake into an arctic landscape – Bake a large, rectangular sheet cake to use as the foundation, and bake a few cupcakes to use as igloos. Ice the cake and cupcakes with white frosting. Place the “igloos” on the cake. Use light and dark blue icing to decorate the cake with “cracks” and “ice water,” and to draw ice cubes on the igloos, if desired. You may wish to add gummy fish to the ice water areas of the cake. Place a few small, plastic penguin figures on top of the cake. Be sure to leave room in the middle to write “Happy Birthday!”

PARTY GAMES FOR PENGUIN PARTY

Penguin Sock Puppets

Guests can create their own penguin sock puppets with this fun craft…

What You’ll Need:
Several Black Socks (one for each guest)
White and Yellow Felt
Wiggly Eyes
Glue
Scissors
Colorful Fabric Markers

Preparation:
Use scissors to cut oval shapes out of the white fabric. You’ll need one for each sock/guest. These will be the penguins’ bellies. Cut out smaller ovals to use for the penguins’ faces (also from the white fabric). From the yellow fabric, cut out triangular beaks and feet.

Cut out enough fabric to make one penguin sock, and make it yourself to see if the shapes will work well on the socks. This will let you know if you need to cut the shapes differently before you get too far into the project. 

At The Party:
Place socks, shapes, wiggly eyes, and glue out on a table, and let the kids assemble their own sock puppets. Children may decorate their penguins with markers if they wish. Be sure to label the socks with the children’s names, and let the socks dry for at least 20 to 30 minutes before your guests play with them.

Penguin Hunt

Send partygoers on a search for penguins hidden throughout the party area…

What You’ll Need:
Paper Bags (one for each player or group)
15 – 30 Small Penguin Toys, OR,
Several Penguin Cut-Outs

Preparation:
Purchase small penguin toys or print out a couple copies of our Penguin Cut-Out Sheet, and cut out each penguin. Hide the penguins around the party area where the children will be able to find them.

At The Party:
If you have many guests, consider putting them into small groups. Give each player or group a paper bag. Set a timer for 5 minutes. When you say “Go,” start the timer. The players must search the party area for the hidden penguins.

The player/group with the most penguins at the end of 5 minutes wins. Award prizes based on how many penguins each player/group has, such as 5 pieces of candy for 5 penguins.
